Messquerade

Creepy History

The first year starting in 1999 was in the parking lot behind Cafe Vita. About 15 people came out for this race. Then it was more like an alley cat instead of a scavenger hunt. I also had a one of the first bike polo tournaments after the race. This was Tim Mason’s first win! This location came about because I worked at Kozmo.com and the warehouse was next door.

In 2000, A slightly larger crowd came out, including a few Portlanders. The attraction was the bike polo mostly for Pdx’ers. I think 18 or so people attended. We had a great time. Costumers had to act out their costume for best costume.

For 2001, Bush got elected and I left for 3 months to South America on my bike. No Messquerade….

In 2002, 30 some people came out in amazing costumes and it barely rained. Memory is fading…....

2003 was great. It was the year Caos(Courier ass of seattle) hosted the CMWC in Seattle. We all worked really hard on that event, where we introduced Bike polo to the Courier/messenger world. Awesome pictures from this year were taking by LJ McAllister. ET was there. America Indians were there and tall bikes & fire. Messquerade came through and I got knocked around by team drunken saylor. Some 65 people or so came out this year.

2004 was a blast, Bush was campaigning again and made for a great scavenger hunt. Trying to find a bush/cheney sign was almost impossible. I showed up with WMD’s. The outcome turned out 70ish people. My costume was a fridge box on its side attached to my bike like rolling wmd depot. I ended up getting trashed and threw it in the bonfire. The highlight was the Haunted house afterparty that went off. Lots of prizes this year.

2005 – A Hundred and 5 people paid to scavenger hunt this year and I was amazed while riding down the ramp in my headless tallbikeman’s costume. We killed a keg in the parking lot even before anyone took off for the race. It was the shit. Lots of sponsors this year and a great afterparty. Scavenger hunt, teams, bikes, beers, costumes… It’s Halloween again! We can all count on the best Messquerade ever, just like every year.

2006 was hosted by 32Rob while I was in Europe. About 50 people came out and had a great time.
